Important safety information
Testosterone therapy carries real risk. This page collects that risk information in one place. It is general information, not medical advice, and it does not replace the conversation you will have with your prescribing clinician.
Testosterone and hormone therapy
Testosterone and other hormone therapies are prescription treatments and are not appropriate for everyone. Testosterone therapy can raise red blood cell count, worsen untreated sleep apnea or severe heart failure, and impair fertility and sperm production. It is not prescribed to treat normal aging, and it is not prescribed to anyone who is pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Men with a history of prostate or breast cancer require specialist evaluation before therapy is considered.
How Contin-U prescribes
Testosterone is a Schedule III controlled substance. Contin-U prescribes it by telehealth under the federal telemedicine flexibilities currently in effect, and only after a physician evaluation that includes bloodwork. Treatment is never guaranteed. A Contin-U-affiliated physician may determine that treatment is not clinically indicated for you, in which case no prescription is issued. Only your prescribing clinician can decide whether a therapy is right for you. This page is general information and is not medical advice. Report side effects to your clinician and to the FDA at MedWatch or 1-800-FDA-1088. If you have a medical emergency, call 911.
Questions about a specific therapy
